1966 West Dayton Riots

50 Years ago today, the city and its police force experienced the third day of rioting in West Dayton, a riot that began on September 1, 1966.  This was a major incident in local law enforcement history and the third time in which the military had to be called in to assist officers in protecting the community (1913 and 1948 the other two).

The Dayton Daily News will begin a three-part series in the Sunday print edition called "Lasting Scars: The 1966 West Dayton riot."

To learn far more about the state of the community in 1966 and the violence the continued in West Dayton with serial killings over four successive summers, read the  book "Blood in the Streets: Racism, Riots and Murders in the Heartland of America."

This book was authored by retired Dayton Police Lt. Dan Baker and his wife, Gwen Nalls.  It is available at Amazon.com and ForensicPublications.com and at many book outlets.
